Jazz Without Rhythm - Delius

Waking up to "A Walk to the Paradise Garden" -

As a former dancer I was always a rhythm hound. But 20+ years ago Errol introduced me to a world of musical sensuousness that destroyed my old prejudice for a good beat. It was the music of Frederick Delius, English/German/Cosmopolitan(!)/temporarily American composer, who reveled in the tropics of Central Florida at the end of the 19th century, as I do now.  It had the feel of jazz, but without being harnessed by a beat. The lush harmonies evoke untapped memories and longings, that I'm not clear are mine or maybe his. But they've become mine as I used this music to navigate moving back to the South.
